Maybe it’s been a while since you last had family portraits taken. Or maybe you’ve welcomed a new addition to the family since your last session!
Whatever your situation, in the lead up to your shoot you might find yourself with questions about what to expect on the day. So, to help put your mind at ease, we’ve put together this guide to what happens during a family photoshoot at Kingshill Studios.

What happens during a family photoshoot at Kingshill Studios
In the lead up to your session…
Once you’ve made your booking, we’ll get in touch with you for an informal chat to talk some more about what to expect during your session.
This gives us a chance to talk about what you might want to wear, or what you should bring to the studio. We can also get some ideas together about what kind of artwork you might be looking for from your session. It’s a great time to start brainstorming ideas!
Before your session, we recommend taking some time to look around your home and think about potential places for displaying those beautiful photographs of your family.
Think about how big the pieces should be, and which room they’ll be in. This might even help you decide about what to wear on the day – is there a certain colour scheme that would match beautifully with your home?
We may ask you to bring along a couple of changes of clothes so we have some options on the day. Think about keeping it simple – stick to classic choices such as jeans and a top. You also want to make sure you’re all comfortable on the day, and that the outfits you are wearing complement each other rather than clash.

During your session…
We’re very lucky here at Kingshill Studios to be able to make use of both our indoor and outdoor space.
Your session will usually start off inside the studio before we move outside (Scottish weather dependant, of course!). This allows us to capture a variety of photographs of your family in a range of settings.
We love keeping things relaxed and natural, and the most important thing of all is to HAVE FUN! We want you to thoroughly enjoy your time in the studio, making precious memories with your family. After all, those memories will be attached to the photographs that will then be displayed proudly around your home!
If you’re bringing any little ones along and are worried about how they’ll react to the studio setting, don’t stress! We’ve had plenty of practice! You’ll be surprised what we’re able to capture on the day.
Our outdoor space gives them plenty of room to run around and use up some of that energy! Remember, we want it to be fun for them too. That way, they’ll be excited the next time they visit the studio.
After your session…
We’ll invite you back for a viewing appointment, where you’ll be able to see your photographs beautifully displayed in a presentation.
