If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll already know that I am one of the volunteer photographers for the Aberdeen-based charity Friends of Anchor, and every year they hold a huge fundraising event – ‘Courage on the Catwalk’ to raise money.
This is a fashion show like no other, and the funds go towards supporting those people who are receiving cancer treatment, and their families, as well as funding vital cancer research.
You can read my write-up about the Courage on the Catwalk 2019 event here.
Shining the spotlight on the ‘Courage on the Catwalk’ models
Plans for the charity’s annual ‘Courage on the Catwalk’ event began in February and it was due to take place in May. Sadly though, due to COVID, it wasn’t to be.
After a call from the Friends of Anchor team around what could be done, I offered to continue my support and to photograph each of the ladies and their families who were due to take part in the fashion show.
We wanted to shine the spotlight on the Courage models – to provide them with an enjoyable photoshoot experience as well as the gift of photography.
We thought that this would give them a boost during these particularly tough times.
Socially-distanced portrait sessions in my outdoor photography studio
I have a beautiful open space that I regularly use for family portrait sessions here at Kingshill Studios HQ and so I invited each of the women to join me there for a socially-distanced photoshoot.
During these portrait sessions, I took an album’s worth of photographs of each of these courageous women and gifted these to them afterwards as well as provided them to the charity to use in their events programme.
It’s been an honour to be involved with this important charity’s work again this year.
Courage on the Catwalk in the news
It was a joy to see one of the Courage on the Catwalk models, the inspirational 82-year-old Margaret Donald, recently featured on STV sharing her story about how she plans to fundraise for Friends of Anchor.
She plans to walk 5k every day until ‘Courage on the Catwalk’ can finally go ahead. Amazingly, she has already walked 150km and has raised more than £1500 in funds, smashing her initial target of £500.
