It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since the world as we knew it changed. 12 months since “normal” life ceased to exist and we were all thrust into a crisis, unlike anything most of us have ever experienced before.

We’ve all had to adjust to a “new normal”, whether by changing the way we operate our businesses, switching to remote working and finding ways to cope without the freedom to see our loved ones as we once could.

Time is passing quickly!

It’s now the middle of March – can you believe how quickly this year is passing by?

When it became clear that the start of this year was going to look very much like the end of the last, many of us were struck with feelings of frustration and fatigue. However, 2021 definitely brings with it a certain sense of possibility.

Adapting to the ‘new normal’

Over the last month or so, social media has been filled with photographs of people sharing the results of their latest DIY project, showing off newly-learned skills or meeting up with a friend for a catch-up.

It’s interesting to look at the different ways people are adapting to the unprecedented situation we all find ourselves in.

Fancy a catchup?

I’d never have thought that I’d get to the stage where simply meeting a friend for a walk would be the centre of my whole weekend. Or that I’d be getting excited to dress up for a Zoom call.

But, through these catch-ups, we’re able to share work-related worries, discuss the latest renovation we’re doing at home, and bond over shared anxieties.

These “small things”, hold such a vital role in helping us feel close to our loved ones. They help give us an understanding that we’re not alone, and that these feelings we’re feeling are valid & shared by those we hold dearest.

Searching for the light at the end of the tunnel

It’s definitely not easy to find positives amongst the feelings of uncertainty many of us feel, but it’s interesting to consider how highly we value experiences we once took for granted.

Is there any particular strategy or mindset you’ve adopted over the last year that you think has helped get you through? We’d love to hear it!
